The legend of the Yule Log 

For centuries, the Yule Log was used as a symbol of the Winter Solstice, when days start getting longer and the promise of Spring is renewed. Later, it was used as part of Christmas celebrations around the world, and was said to bring peace, prosperity and a special blessing to the house. Traditionally, the log was burned at the end of the Christmas season, with a small piece preserved to start the next year’s celebratory fire. One of the traditions of the log-burning was that no one had to work as long as the log was still burning, leading some to select the largest, greenest log they could find to assure a long holiday.

With the switch to central heating, the Yule Log today has taken on the role of decoration during the Christmas season. It makes a beautiful table centerpiece or focal point for your holiday display. These are too beautiful to burn.
